About Us

Our Story

Dawah Institute – Detroit was founded with a clear vision: to create a welcoming space where seekers can ask questions freely, new Muslims can find guidance and support, and lifelong believers can deepen their understanding of Islam. The Institute was established to serve as both a place of worship and a center for learning, connection, and meaningful community engagement.

What began as an abandoned church has been transformed into a vibrant masjid and community center, symbolizing growth, guidance, and continuity. The transformation of the building reflects the broader mission of the Institute itself: turning spaces of uncertainty into places of faith, knowledge, and belonging.

In 2025, the Institute reached a defining milestone. Through careful planning, community support, and responsible stewardship, the building was converted into a fully operational masjid. Today, it offers high-quality prayer spaces, separate areas for men and women, and dedicated facilities designed to support education, spiritual development, and community programs. The space now hosts daily prayers, khutbahs, classes, and gatherings that bring people together in worship and learning.

To accommodate a growing community and prepare for future expansion, two additional parcels of land were acquired to improve parking and support upcoming initiatives. These additions allow the Institute to welcome more visitors while planning for long-term growth. The facility also received full approval from the City of Detroit, confirming that it meets all safety, occupancy, and code requirements. This milestone reflects the Institute’s commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for everyone who walks through its doors.

Beyond the physical building, Dawah Institute is dedicated to nurturing faith, supporting new Muslims, and strengthening the bonds of community. Through education, mentorship, and outreach, the Institute continues to grow as a place where individuals can learn about Islam, practice their faith, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple yet profound: to invite to Islam with wisdom and compassion, guide seekers of truth, and support new Muslims in becoming confident, practicing believers, while providing accessible and authentic Islamic education for individuals and families.

The Institute focuses on creating programs that are practical, welcoming, and grounded in authentic Islamic teachings. From mentorship for new Muslims to educational programs and community events, each initiative is designed to help individuals grow in faith while building meaningful relationships within the community.

In 2025 alone, Dawah Institute made significant strides toward this mission:

  • Supported over 150 shahadahs, providing welcome packages, mentorship, and follow-up support
  • Served over 500 community members through education, worship, and support programs
  • Distributed thousands of Qur’ans and da‘wah materials to empower learning and spiritual growth
  • Delivered multiple weekly educational programs, both in-person and online
  • Launched major digital platforms, broadcasting khutbahs, lessons, and community events to reach a wider audience

These accomplishments reflect the Institute’s commitment to practical, hands-on support. Every class, mentorship opportunity, and outreach initiative is designed to ensure that new Muslims are guided, communities are strengthened, and the message of Islam is shared with clarity and integrity.

Our Vision

Dawah Institute aims to become Detroit’s leading center for dawah and new Muslim support. We envision a place where seekers find answers, new Muslims find belonging, and lifelong believers gain the knowledge, confidence, and tools to share Islam with clarity and compassion.

Our long-term vision is to build a thriving hub for Islamic learning and community engagement. This includes expanding educational programs, increasing outreach efforts, and strengthening support systems for new Muslims so that no one feels alone in their journey of faith.

With a fully operational masjid, expanding community programs, and comprehensive digital infrastructure now in place, Dawah Institute is well-positioned to continue its mission with even greater impact in the years ahead, in sha Allah.
